Now that my girl is getting older (almost 10) I decided it’s time for a bedroom revamp.

Currently her room is full of butterflies and windchimes with fairy castle curtains – all lovely but she’s a tween now so I asked her what style bedroom she would like.

I need a theme or colour scheme to work with and she said she wants a Monster high style bedroom.

If you don’t know Monster High where have you been??? But they are basically a goulish version of Barbie – a thing at the moment with little girls.

I am reluctant to plaster her walls and room with monster high accessories – only because she may change her tastes in the next few months. Who knows what she will be into next year?   and since we’re on a tight budget I didn’t want to spend a lot and have to redo it in a hurry.

So I decided to do a Monster High ‘inspired’ bedroom rather than full on Monster High everything, using Kmart products.

If you haven’t been to Kmart Australia lately their homewares are fantastic and the prices are very affordable.

So I have taken the Monster High colours – pink, blue/aqua, black and white- and used those as my basic theme:

When I decorate a room I like to have a basic plan in mind – which inevitably changes as I go along but it helps me get clear in my head the look I am aiming for.

Here’s what I have come up so far with using Kmart products:

Creating a Monster high inspired bedroom

I started with the bedding – the pink/aqua set seemed perfect. Then, I found the cushions and the fluffy pink throw that I know Jassie will love. The pink lampshade is perfect, they also had an aqua one which would look good if you are wanting a less feminine look.

The hexagon shadow boxes are perfect for displaying her little knick knacks at for only $12 each.

The aqua basket is ideal for her laundry, which at the moment always ends up on the floor.

For the desk I have chosen a desk lamp in black, with a waste paper basket to match. The white soap dish she can use to put her earrings and school badge at the end of the day; her desk itself is mauve as are her walls. Since there is some mauve in Monster High I think I can get away without painting them 🙂

So that’s the plan!

Stay tuned for the next instalment to see the finished Monster High inspired bedroom!
